Seasons of Kabushima
Seasons of Kabushima
As the seasons change, so does the scenery of Kabushima.
Spring
In spring, the hillsides of Kabushima are blanketed with nanohana rapeseed blossoms (Brassica rapa L. var. oleifera). The vivid yellow flowers against the bright blue sky provide a dramatic backdrop for the flocks of black-tailed gulls in the midst of their mating season.
Summer
The days grow hotter, and before long Kabushima’s beachfront is lively with visiting families. The sound of children laughing as they play in the gentle waves mingles with the cat-like cry of the gulls soaring overhead, the local song of summer.
Autumn
The gulls leave Kabushima, and before long the chill winds of autumn begin to blow. As the days grow shorter, the hillsides glow crimson in the early sunsets.
Winter
In winter, a sheet of powdery white snow covers the island, and the sea breeze is cold enough for gusts to cut through heavy coats. Beneath the snow, the nanohana quietly await the coming of spring.
