2011.03.29 Concerning city tax reductions for earthquake and tsunami disaster victims

We will carry out city tax reductions based on the extent of damage for disaster victims of the major earthquake and tsunami on 2011 March 11th.

In addition, the regular tax reduction system is available for those whose daily living has become extremely difficult due to flooding damage or bankruptcy at their place of work. Please consult with the Tax Collection Section (Shu No Ka).  

Concerning the reduction of city tax due to extraordinary disaster

The intended recipients and percentage of tax reductions

Tax reductions will be carried out as listed below.

Fixed property tax The cost of damages to your fixed property is more than 20% of the value of said fixed property. We will reduce tax based on the extent of damage to fixed property
Personal resident tax   National health insurance tax The cost of damages to your residence or household goods (excluding monetary compensation gained from insurance etc.) exceeds 30% of the value of the residence or household goods, and when the combined income earned from 2010 to 2011 is under ¥10,000,000. We will reduce tax based on the extent of damages to the residence or household goods.
Light motor vehicle tax  Your car is lost or damaged due to the major earthquake and tsunami If your car is gone or rendered unusable due to damages, then tax reductions will be within 100%. If repair is possible, then tax reductions will be within 50%.

(attention)Tax reductions are also available for farmers who have suffered damages due to lost crops scheduled for harvest and for fishing industries suffering damages in catching or cultivating fish. If the total cost of damages is above a certain amount of an average year’s income, then reduction of personal resident tax is available.  

The taxes that will be reduced

The following required taxes for the fiscal year from April 2011 to April 2012: personal resident tax, fixed property tax, light motor vehicle tax, national health insurance tax.  

Applying for tax reductions

We will give out more detailed information once it is decided when we will begin accepting applications. Also, we plan on personally sending out applications to people who have suffered serious flooding damages.  

What you need to apply

A receipt (with detailed entries) or written estimate that proves the cost of damages and your personal seal (hanko)
